New volunteers are always welcome to join the Garden! We have new volunteers of all ages, skills and abilities signing up every year, so don’t worry, you won’t be the only newcomer. Whether you’re green to gardening or a seasoned green thumb, there will always be something for you to do and something new to learn.
Please make sure you have ticked off the following before heading to the Garden. We provide all the other gardening tools and supplies.
We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for every age and physical ability. In the garden, tasks include seeding, planting, watering, weeding and harvesting. There are also volunteer opportunities aside from gardening, such as helping to sell the handicrafts or with garden communications. You can help at the garden from the time that we start planting in the spring until the Thanksgiving long weekend, weather depending. Regular volunteer hours are usually Tuesday evenings, Thursday mornings and Saturday mornings.
You don’t have to commit to coming every week or to let us know when you can or can’t make it. Just come when you can during the regular volunteer hours, and help for as long as you want or are able.
Unlike most community gardens, we don’t have individual plots. We garden the entire two acres together.
Volunteers are also “customers” and we also donate for the garden produce we take, in support of Tubahumurize. We ask that donations for garden produce be based on what you might pay for similar produce at a farmers’ market.
